Hello and welcome to my counselling profile.

Life can be difficult at times and problems rarely occur in isolation of other life events that may be current for us.

Life challenges are often opportunities for personal growth and positive change. However, such challenges can seem more like crises when we do not feel we have the tools to deal with them effectively.

I believe that we all have within ourselves the ability to face these challenges and to make our choices; we sometimes just need a bit of help along the way.

As an experienced, BACP Accredited counsellor, I will work alongside you, offering empathy and a non-judgemental environment where you can explore the issues you are facing. I will listen, offer coping strategies and techniques and together we can formulate a plan for moving forward and getting you back to feeling more like yourself.

Areas I can help with

I work with people over the age of 18 to address a wide variety of issues, including and not

restricted to:

Anxiety ~ Depression ~ Grief and Bereavement (including pregnancy loss) ~ Menopause ~ Work-related stress ~ Pre and postnatal anxiety and depression ~ Birth/perinatal trauma        ~ Health issues ~ Adapting to life transitions

TBR 3 Step Rewind for Birth/Perinatal Trauma

As a counsellor with a background in gynaecology nursing, I have spent the last 30 years working in the arena of women’s health. I am passionate about perinatal mental well-being and supporting women and their partners through all stages of pregnancy and beyond, including offering therapeutic help with birth trauma experiences.

Trauma is a unique experience. It’s really important to acknowledge that individuals will encounter trauma in different ways, so even if your birth or other perinatal experiences wouldn’t necessarily be ‘classified’ as traumatic from a medical perspective, if you felt unsafe, unsupported, disappointed or communication was poor, that can have a continued impact on how you feel, even if the outcome was ‘positive’.

I work with clients who:

·      have had a difficult fertility journey

·      have low mood and/or anxiety during or after pregnancy

·      have experienced perinatal/birth trauma

·      have suffered a pregnancy loss at any stage

·      have experienced a difficult postnatal adjustment to parenthood

The 3 step Rewind is a gentle approach to helping clients process their experience and is offered as a stand-alone therapy or as part of a wider piece of therapeutic work. The 3 step technique works by separating the memory from the difficult emotions attached to it, allowing you to step into parenthood free from the trauma responses that you may still be living with. It involves a combination of guided visualisation, deep relaxation and the Rewind technique.

Next Steps

I offer a free initial 15 minute phone or Zoom call, which is an opportunity for us to ‘meet’ and make sure we are a good fit to work together. It’s really important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose; feeling able to open up in your sessions will help you to achieve a positive outcome. This initial meeting will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about counselling and how we might work together.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and cost £55.

TBR 3 Step Rewind takes place over 3 sessions and costs £180, payable in 3 instalments if

required.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

A bit about me

My counsellor training began alongside my nursing career when it became clear that patients often needed much more than the practicalities of medical assistance and care. I gained my MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy as a Means to Health in 1999, graduating 6 weeks after the birth of my daughter. After almost 10 years of working night shifts as a nurse while my children grew, I began my private practice in 2008. Alongside this, I also volunteered as a bereavement counsellor at a children’s hospice and a student counsellor at a university.

Since then, I have continued to learn and grow as a practitioner, with regular continued

professional development courses. I have also achieved a Diploma in Bereavement Counselling and become a Birth Trauma Practitioner. I am passionate about providing a professional yet personable counselling service to my clients and have enjoyed working with clients aged from 18-86! I firmly believe it’s never too late or too early to seek the help you might need along your journey.
